The photos you see in this post belong to a motorcycle that is unique. Unique because it is a model made by Mugen, the company founded in 1973 by Hirotoshi Honda, son of Soichiro Honda, the founder of the golden wing brand. And unique because only one of these was manufactured Honda Mugen MRV1000.

The MRV1000 was an attempt to create a limited production street bike with a 4 valve, twin carb, 1000cc V-Twin. After they built it they realized it would cost far too much to be marketable and this prototype is the one and only of its kind. The engine definitely has the look of a Vincent, though I think the originals had slightly better lines.

The Mugen MRV1400 is a 1,400cc V-twin engine which is inspired by a similar 1,000cc engine built by them in the 1970s. The MRV1400 features Keihin carburettors, pushrod tubes, and a separated transmission system.

A 1000cc, 4 valve, twin carb, V-twin created by Hirotoshi Honda. Hirotoshi, son of Soichiro Honda (the godfather of Honda) started the performance engine tuning and parts manufacturer Mugen in 1973. The MRV1000 was to be Mugen's attempt to leverage the popularity of British motorcycles.

The design - for a four-valve OHV air-cooled 1,400cc V-twin - has its roots in a near-mythical bike Mugen built in the 1970s, the MRV1000. That prototype used a one-off 1,000cc twin-carbed engine design, which looked a lot like the classic Vincent V-twin engine from the 1950s.

Young Machine has already come up with a render of the potential MRV1400, and it looks like a worthy Vincent emulation. Would such a bike draw enough customers to fly Mugen's kite?
